Equilibrium (book)

Exhibition catalog from the duo show ÆKVILIBRIUM / EQUILIBRIUM at Gammelgaard, Herlev, DK by Ditte Ejlerskov and Johan Furåker.

The book is divided into two sections: one side presents our works exploring the energy of the sun, while the other side, with a different cover, presents works exploring the moon. Similarly, our show was divided into a sun room and a moon room, each showcasing works that reflected the unique energy of the two celestial bodies.

The sun and the moon have had symbolic meanings in various ancient cultures. In Egyptian culture, the sun represented power and protection, associated with the god Ra, while the moon represented fertility and regeneration, associated with the goddess Isis. In Chinese culture, the sun and the moon were associated with the concept of yin and yang, representing balance and harmony. In Hinduism, the sun symbolized life, light, knowledge, and enlightenment, associated with the god Surya, while the moon represented tides and emotions, associated with the god Chandra. Both the sun and the moon were seen as symbols of duality and balance in many cultures.

Curator Anne Retz Wessberg writes about the show: "In their sensory saturated scenographic elements of the show, cultural memories and remains are processed in a contemporary and futuristic context. The exhibition wishes to take us on a journey through staged reflective spaces, where regular, universal and continuous life paradoxes are present – across time, culture, media and materials. The show shines a light on how forgotten historical and cultural figures and symbols are present in our own time.. With its focus on the spiritual and universal element of the general human condition, I hope the exhibition creates fertile grounds for curiosity and inspiration."
